2010 Summer Prospect Showcase Recap

The Summer of 2010 will definitely go down as one of the HOTTEST in recent history!  We began our summer on June 28th at Stonehill College with our 2010 Summer Prospect Showcase.  In the event’s first year of existence, we saw a phenomenal turnout from both prospects and coaches.  We had just over 70 players register from the classes of 2011 & 2012 with over 25 college coaches and 2 professional scouts in attendance.  Day 1 was our clinic and skills showcase with players displaying their 60 yard dash speed, infield/outfield arm strength, swing technique, and pitching velocity.  College coaches worked directly with each position including:

Jay King (Franklin Pierce University) & Joe Teixeira (Nichols College): PITCHERS

Mike Glavine (Northeastern University): FIRST BASEMEN

Jon Sjogren (Rollins College) & Pat Boen (Stonehill College): MIDDLE INFIELDERS

Jeff Kane (College of the Holy Cross): THIRD BASEMEN

Coley Lyons (Stonehill College) & Idris Liasu (Univ. Rhode Island): OUTFIELDERS

Dirk Baker (Worcester State College): CATCHERS

Some of the top times/velocities of the day were:

60-YARD DASH

1) Alex Witkus, 2011, North Attleboro HS: 6.66     2) Kyle Jackson, 2011, Lincoln High School (RI): 6.81     3) Jake Wong, 2011, Duxbury High School: 6.96

INFIELD ARM STRENGTH

1) Alex Witkus, 2011, North Attleboro HS: 84mph     2) Dan Geary, 2011, Nipmuc Regional HS: 77mph     3) Nick Carafa, 2011,  Mansfield HS: 76mph

OUTFIELD ARM STRENGTH (Heavy winds going against throw)

1)  John Nicklas, 2012, St. Sebastian’s: 80mph     2) Kyle Jackson, Lincoln HS (RI): 79mph     3) Jake Wong, Duxbury HS: 78mph

CATCHER POP TIMES

1) Brandon Hoyle, 2012, Bridgewater-Raynham HS: 1.97 sec.     2)  Bryan Rocha, 2012, Dighton-Rehoboth HS: 2.09 sec.     3) Malcolm Kelly, 2011, Dexter HS (Brookline): 2.15 sec.

PITCHER’S VELOCITIES

1) Eddie Fitzpatrick, 2011, North Attleboro HS: 87mph     2) John Nicklas, St. Sebastian’s: 84mph     3) Jordan Picini, 2012, North Attleboro HS: 84mph

Day 2 & 3 players participated in live games in front of the college coaches and pro scouts to give them an opportunity to shine in game situations…something a stop-watch or radar gun won’t tell you!  We received some great feedback from the coaches on the attitude and work ethic of the players as well as the overall talent level.  All in all we as a staff were very pleased with our first go at this type of outdoor event and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

Thank you to all the players and coaches who made our first Summer Prospect Showcase a memorable one!
